About the event
Rainforest Reserves Australia (RRA) is a small environmental charity based in far north Queensland. The organisations core work has traditionally focused on revegetation projects, mostly along riparian corridors and operating a small plant propagation nursery. Rainforest Reserves also operate Australia’s only Cassowary Rehabilitation Facility. Cassowaries come to the Facility to rehabilitate primarily from car strike and dog attack injuries. Birds are released back into the wild after the care they receive in the Facility.
However, more recently the organisation has witnessed vast amounts of land clearing associated with the roll out of industrial scaled renewable projects firstly across north Queensland and then the whole of Australia. It takes RRA many years to revegetate a small area of 5ha, yet renewable developers are clearing thousands of hectares of our best high elevation refugia forests for wind towers and associated infrastructure such as haulage roads, transmission lines, sub stations, workers camps,…
